Train

The Kandy-to-Ella scenic train route is one of the most famous train journeys in the world. You can explore the central highlands.

The next most beautiful train journey is Colombo to Galle, the coastal line train, where you can experience an incredible coastal view throughout the trip.

Bus

Buses are the cheapest way to travel in Sri Lanka, but it can be much crowded in peak hours. The Sri Lankan bus network is extremely affordable and extensive. Government buses are cheaper and provide good and fast service. Private buses are slightly more comfortable. If you plan a budget trip, buses are the best choice for traveling long distances.

• First class on Sri Lankan trains offers reserved air-conditioned seats

• Second class is reserved seating without AC
